Dr. Daniela De Ridder, whose last visit to the Emsland Group was in 2017, stopped by for a visit this September. There were quite a few new topics that were discussed this year with the Management Team, Gerrit-Jan Wesselink, Christian Kemper and Stefan Hannemann, the Chairman of the Works Council, Alfred Weiden, and the Chairman of the local SPD Association in Emlichheim, Johannes Spykman.
Plant protection products, energy policies or restrictions in potato cultivation – in addition to the successes of the Group, there were also numerous challenges which the representatives of the Emsland Group were able to report about during the visit of the Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Julia Klöckner on Monday evening.

The Emsland Group was pleased to receive a visit at the political level at the beginning of August. Guests were Viola von Cramon as a member of the European Parliament of the GREENS as well as Everhard Hüseman, Bundestag candidate GREENS Mittelems, Erich Gülzow - speaker of the GREENS in the local association Emlichheim and district council candidate as well as Christiane Hartmann, GREENS district council candidate.
The Emsland Group is beginning the new training year with 21 new apprentices. Christian Kemper, CSO of the Emsland Group, welcomed the new talent and mentioned that it has been several years since we had so many young people join our Emlichheim location.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 18th Annual General Meeting of the holding company Emsland-Stärke AG was not held this year as usual at the Kamps restaurant in Meppen, but rather it was held for the first time virtually via live stream and broadcast online via the Emsland Group homepage.
A stay abroad during an apprenticeship is always something special and is not available to every apprentice. Our plant in Kyritz has received recognition from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for its participation in such a foreign program for apprentices and may from now on put on display a plaque proclaiming: “Internships abroad – we make it possible”.
The Cloppenburg facility of Emsland Food GmbH has won the BGN Award for Inclusion 2021. This makes the Emsland Group one of four companies that have been honored by the food and catering trade association BGN (Berufsgenossenschaft Nahrungsmittel und Gastgewerbe) for exceptional and successful commitment to long-term reintegration of employees.
Vaccinations are still one of the most effective medical measures for preventing COVID-19. In addition to the annual flu vaccination, employees at the Emlichheim site can now receive the coronavirus vaccine as well.
For the new construction and expansion of our potato protein production line at the Wietzendorf site in Germany, the Emsland Group is once again calling on the expertise of GEA. The follow-up order for the production line in Wietzendorf, valued in the low single-digit million-euro range, includes planning, delivery, and installation support for the entire process line for converting potato juice into high-quality protein.
While the first production tests of WaltrAut are already being planned on the inside, the work on the external facade is also nearing completion. WaltrAut is already contributing to a changed skyline at the Emlichheim location — a big step towards the future and for the further establishment of state-of-the-art plant technology at the Emsland Group.
