Cloppenburg is the county seat and also the largest city of the District of Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony, which is named after it. It is also an independent municipality and along with its approximately 34,000 residents is located in the region of Oldenburg Münsterland.
Surrounded by nature, Cloppenburg has a medium-sized city center with a large pedestrian zone and many attractive cultural offerings.
