Emvision 2030: Meeting Customer Needs Through Advanced Modified Starch Production
In the evolving landscape of the food and technical specialty industries, innovation and adaptability are key. As a global leader in the starch industry, the Emsland Group is embracing these principles with their comprehensive plan, Emvision 2030. This initiative represents a step forward in the production of modified starches, underpinned by significant investment, state-of-the-art engineering, and a commitment to sustainability.
Upgrading Production Facilities
Central to Emvision 2030 is the modernization and expansion of current production facilities. By enhancing their infrastructure, the Emsland Group is preparing to meet the increasing demands of their customers efficiently and effectively.
The Introduction of ROXY: A Milestone in Starch Modification
A highlight of Emvision 2030 is the construction of a new reaction tank for starch modification nicknamed ROxy. Derived from the German term “Reaktionsbehälter Oxydation,” ROxy represents a significant milestone in the company’s journey. With an investment of around 15 million euros, this facility is poised to transform the company’s production of modified starches.
The engineering of ROxy is done entirely in-house, showcasing the Emsland Group’s expertise and their ability to integrate local companies and suppliers into their processes. This not only ensures high-quality construction and operation but also supports the local economy and fosters community ties.
Embracing Automation and Sustainability
Automation is a key focus in the development of ROxy. By incorporating advanced automated systems, the Emsland Group aims to streamline production, enhance efficiency, and reduce human error. This shift towards automation reflects the broader industry trend towards smarter, more responsive manufacturing processes.
Equally important is the Emsland Group’s commitment to sustainability. ROxy is designed to meet all German and European legal requirements in a future-proof manner. This includes stringent sustainability standards, ensuring that the facility operates in an environmentally responsible way. One notable feature is the application of energy-saving processes. By utilizing waste heat from nearby plants, ROxy eliminates the need for heat from primary energy sources, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
Meeting Market Demands with Specialty Starches
The driver of the project is clear: to better meet customer and market demands. The food and technical specialties industries are evolving, with a growing need for specialty starches that offer unique properties and benefits. With the new ROxy facility, the Emsland Group will be well equipped to produce these high-demand specialty starches.
Currently, only a select few ingredient providers possess the expertise and capability to produce this special type of modified starch. The Emsland Group not only has the know-how but, with the completion of ROxy, will also have the production capacity to meet this demand on a significant scale.
Processing Power: An Impressive Scale
The amount of potatoes that ROxy will be able to process is equivalent to the area of approximately 9,500 soccer fields, or about 1.37 times the size of the municipality of Emlichheim. This massive processing power underscores the Emsland Group’s commitment to scaling their operations to meet market needs while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
Timeline and Future Outlook
Construction of the ROxy facility is set for the end of summer 2025, with production expected to commence in 2026. The production optimization does not end with the completion of ROxy, however. As part of Emvision, there are many additional projects lined up to ensure production capacity growth. Once Emvision is completed in 2030, we will reach our desired production capacity potential.
Emvision 2030 is more than just a plan; it is a vision for the future of starch modification. By investing in cutting-edge technology, prioritizing sustainability, and expanding production capabilities, the Emsland Group is not only meeting the demands of today but also preparing for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
