The Wietzendorf starch plant is surrounded by the Lüneburg Heath near Soltau, Germany. It was built in 1969/1970 and used for manufacturing native potato starch. The plant has been operated by the Emsland Group since July 1986 before it was completely bought by the Emsland Group in 2008.
The starch quality here is unique throughout the whole Emsland Group due to its high viscosity. High-quality potato protein is also produced here in addition to purely native potato starch. In addition to its high quality, the plant also has an impressive repertoire of numerous international norms and standards. An overview on this is available in the Quality Management / Certification area.
The necessary raw material is grown and supplied within a 100-kilometer radius. The processing season is from August to January of the following year.
